Iraq corruption raid reportedly uncovered $57 million, 27kg of gold and luxury items at a female lawmaker’s Baghdad home.
BAGHDAD, Iraq: An Iraq corruption raid has reportedly led to the arrest of a female MP after officers allegedly found $57 million, 27 kilograms (60 pounds) of gold and gold-plated undergarments at her home.
The lawmaker, identified in reports as Hind al-Abbachi, was detained during a sweeping anti-corruption crackdown said to have begun after April 12.
Reports said the Iraq corruption raid uncovered dinar stockpiles valued at $57 million, gold bars and luxury items.
They also alleged that officers found a gold-plated brassiere and matching panty, both set with gemstones, inside the residence.
The Iraq corruption raid forms part of a broader investigation into alleged misappropriation of government funds. Authorities said 47 people, including seven MPs and 40 government officials, were arrested across Iraq on suspicion of corruption and embezzlement.
Investigators are examining how public funds were allegedly diverted.
