Vavuniya woman dies in Oman after travelling abroad as a domestic helper to support her family, leaving her husband, children and relatives demanding clearer answers over her death.
The deceased has been identified as Sindhuja, a mother of two from the Omanthai area in Vavuniya.
According to her family, Sindhuja had gone to Oman for work to ease the financial burden on her household. While she remained overseas, she stayed in regular telephone contact with her husband and children.
However, relatives said that communication suddenly stopped after the 19th of last month. Her husband, alarmed by the silence, reportedly tried to call her several times, but no one answered.

A few days later, the family received news that Sindhuja had passed away. Official claims suggested that she had taken her own life.
However, the family says authorities have not yet provided clear information about the real cause of death or the circumstances that led to it.
Meanwhile, nearly one month after her death, officials brought her body to Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo today.
After authorities handed over the body to the family at the airport, it was sent to hospital for further forensic and medical examinations.
The return of a mother who left Sri Lanka hoping to build a better future for her family has plunged her relatives and residents in Omanthai into deep grief.
Relatives have urged the authorities to conduct a proper investigation into the death. They say the Vavuniya woman dies in Oman case needs full clarity, because her family still awaits answers.
