England vs Norway ended 2-1 after Jude Bellingham scored twice, including an extra-time winner, to send England into the World Cup semifinals.
The England vs Norway quarterfinal produced another dramatic World Cup escape as Jude Bellingham scored twice to secure a 2-1 extra-time victory in Miami.
Bellingham struck moments before halftime and again in the 93rd minute. His decisive brace ended Norway’s remarkable campaign and carried England into the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals.
England vs Norway Turns Before Halftime
Norway opened the scoring in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup. His finish gave the Scandinavian side hope of following their stunning victory over Brazil with another major upset.
England struggled to control the opening half. Norway stayed organised, aggressive and dangerous whenever they attacked. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland’s presence repeatedly occupied England’s defenders and created space around him.
However, Bellingham transformed the contest just before the interval.
The midfielder collected the ball during an England attack and finished calmly in the second minute of first-half stoppage time. His equaliser sent both teams into the break level at 1-1.
Norway continued causing problems after halftime and placed England under sustained pressure. Thomas Tuchel’s side struggled to find a rhythm as tactical changes and substitutions disrupted their shape.
Haaland and his teammates pushed for the winning goal. England, however, had to defend several dangerous attacks. Norway also had a late effort ruled out and struck the crossbar during a frantic finish.
Neither side found the breakthrough in normal time, sending the quarterfinal into extra time.
Bellingham Strikes Again in Extra Time
Bellingham needed only three minutes to deliver again.
Morgan Rogers drove a powerful effort towards goal, but Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland could not hold the ball cleanly. Bellingham reacted fastest, reached the rebound and finished to put England 2-1 ahead in the 93rd minute.
Norway refused to surrender and kept attacking until the final whistle. England’s defenders, however, stood firm under heavy pressure and protected their narrow advantage.
The England vs Norway victory sends Tuchel’s team into the World Cup semifinals. It also keeps alive England’s hopes of winning the tournament for the first time since 1966.
Bellingham has now scored six goals at the tournament. Once again, he showed his ability to deliver when England needed him most.
For Norway, defeat brought a painful end to an exceptional campaign. Victories over Côte d’Ivoire and Brazil made them one of the tournament’s biggest stories. Ultimately, England’s individual quality ended their historic run.
England will now face defending champions Argentina in the semifinal in Atlanta, where a place in the World Cup final will be at stake.
