Anaya Bangar cricket ambitions have gained a new path in Australia as she continues pursuing women’s cricket and dreams of representing India.
Anaya Bangar cricket ambitions have received fresh hope in Australia as the transgender cricketer continues pursuing her dream of one day winning a World Cup for India.
Anaya, the daughter of former Indian batsman and coach Sanjay Bangar, underwent gender-affirming surgery after saving money while pursuing cricket in England.
She has spoken about sleeping in cricket ground dressing rooms while trying to finance the process and continue her sporting career.
Apart from initial support from her parents after she began hormone replacement therapy, Anaya said she faced an expensive, painful and often lonely journey with limited financial assistance.
Difficult Years in England Test Anaya Bangar Cricket Dream
While playing cricket in England and facing serious financial difficulties, Anaya did not always have stable accommodation.
She spent nights sleeping on air mattresses in friends’ rooms and, at times, inside dressing rooms at cricket grounds.
Far from India, she was simultaneously navigating her gender transition and attempting to preserve a future in competitive cricket.
Anaya has described those experiences as requiring major personal and financial sacrifices.
Her pathway had appeared increasingly uncertain. However, a new opportunity has now emerged through Australian women’s cricket.
Cricket Australia has confirmed that she is eligible to participate in selections connected with the Women’s Big Bash League, according to the information provided.
The development has revived hopes of a professional comeback after Anaya had considered her prospects of returning to high-level cricket increasingly limited.
She is now preparing for a possible return to competitive women’s cricket in Australia, with the aim of playing at a higher level from March next year.
After undergoing gender-affirming surgery earlier this year, Anaya has also received approval from Australian cricket authorities to compete in women’s community cricket.
That includes Premier Cricket competitions conducted across Australian states.
World Cup Dream and Message to the BCCI
As Anaya Bangar cricket opportunities begin opening in Australia, her long-term ambition remains connected to India.
She has said she wants to eventually represent the country and achieve the same ultimate goal pursued by other Indian cricketers: winning a World Cup.
Anaya said she previously approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India seeking support to enter the Indian women’s cricket structure.
According to her, the BCCI did not respond.
She has since told Indian media that she hopes the Board will introduce policies that provide cricketers like her with a pathway into women’s cricket.
For Anaya, Australia now represents an opportunity to rebuild a career that once appeared to be slipping away.
Despite the financial hardship, uncertainty surrounding her transition and the lack of a clear pathway in India, she continues pursuing professional cricket.
Her ambition remains unchanged: to reach the highest level and, one day, win a World Cup for India.
