76-year problems cannot be resolved within 22 months, Minister Samantha Vidyarathna says, arguing Sri Lanka’s government needs more time for reforms.
Sri Lanka’s 76-year problems cannot be resolved within just 22 months, Plantation and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathna has said.
Addressing the Badulla District Convention, Vidyarathna said the country cannot expect the current government to solve problems accumulated throughout more than seven decades within such a short period.
He said Sri Lanka currently has the smallest Cabinet in the country’s history, with only 23 members, including the President.
“If by any chance Anura Kumara Dissanayake brother had not become President, how many would there be in the Cabinet today?” Vidyarathna questioned.
More Time Needed to Address 76-Year Problems
The Minister said people are happy when they receive relief and benefits. However, he claimed another group reacts with resentment when such benefits reach the public.
Vidyarathna further said former rulers who failed the country, along with criminals, have become deeply agitated by the current political changes.
He maintained that the crises facing Sri Lanka developed over more than seven decades and therefore require time to resolve.
According to Vidyarathna, the current government is working systematically to address those long-standing issues rather than expecting immediate solutions within its first 22 months in office.
