Political tensions are mounting as social media buzzes with claims of a possible no-confidence motion to oust Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, following her controversial remarks on Sri Lanka’s 2012 SupremeSAT satellite project. While no official confirmation has been made, the dispute has sparked speculation and deepened divisions within the government.
Reports circulating on social media suggest that discussions are underway to remove Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya from her post. According to these claims, a plan is being considered to bring a no-confidence motion if necessary, and initial discussions on the matter have already taken place.
The reports also allege that nearly a hundred members of the National People’s Power Party are prepared to stand in support of the Prime Minister should such a motion be brought forward. However, the government has not officially confirmed any information regarding these developments.
This political stir follows a recent statement made by the Prime Minister regarding the SupremeSAT satellite launched in 2012. Citing a Board of Investment report during a parliamentary session, she claimed that Sri Lanka had not invested any money in launching the satellite and had, in fact, earned revenue from it.
Her remarks were swiftly contradicted by Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, who stated the following day that an investigation into the matter was ongoing and that the information presented to the Prime Minister was inaccurate.
The controversy has fueled political uncertainty, raising questions about the reliability of official information and the stability of the current administration.
