SriLankan Airlines hacked in a Rs. 80 million Dubai payment fraud, with officials confirming probes after Dayasiri demanded answers.
SriLankan Airlines hacked reports have revealed that the national carrier was allegedly defrauded of Rs. 8 crore, or Rs. 80 million, during a payment to a Dubai supplier.
The financial fraud was reportedly carried out by hackers who gained control of the email account belonging to the party that was supposed to receive the funds and then used it illegally.
It is understood that the transaction was confidential and had been scheduled to be paid in Dirhams, the currency of the United Arab Emirates.
Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Aruna Karunathilaka has confirmed the incident and said a prompt statement will be issued regarding the matter.
Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara exposed the alleged fraud through a message posted on X, formerly Twitter, while pressing the government to launch an urgent investigation.
SriLankan Airlines sources further stated that preliminary investigations have confirmed that the financial fraud had taken place.
