Anuradhapura student assault attempt case sees 65-year-old man arrested after allegedly tricking tuition student with wild elephant warning.
Anuradhapura student assault attempt has shocked parents after police arrested a 65-year-old man accused of tricking an Advanced Level tuition student.
Anuradhapura Police said the suspect allegedly deceived the student while she was returning home after tuition.
The girl had got off the bus after attending her tuition class and was walking along the road while waiting for her father or brother to come and pick her up.
Police investigations have revealed that the suspect cunningly frightened the girl and took her to a house owned by him.
According to the victim, the suspect scared her by saying there were wild elephants ahead on the road she was walking along.
He allegedly misled her by telling her not to go forward and then took her along a side road to his house.
The house was located on a large property spanning several acres.
Although the girl became suspicious when entering the large and deserted premises, the suspect took her inside the house.
There, he allegedly gave her a sarong and forced her to remove her clothes and wrap the sarong around her body.
The student, extremely frightened and traumatised by the suspect’s unusual behaviour, immediately tried to escape.
At that moment, the suspect allegedly grabbed her hands tightly and attempted to stop her from running away.
However, after a major struggle, the girl managed to free herself from the suspect.
She then ran to a nearby house and told the residents about the danger she had faced.
The residents immediately informed the girl’s parents and took steps to hand her over to them safely.
Following a complaint made by the girl’s family at the Anuradhapura Police Station, police officers acted immediately and arrested the suspect.
Meanwhile, the traumatised student was admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital for medical examinations and treatment.
She was also scheduled to be produced before a specialist Judicial Medical Officer.
