Sri Lankan Police Officers Removed After Probes
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said many dismissed officers were implicated in serious criminal activity. These included direct involvement in drug trafficking operations and active connections with organized crime syndicates.
The crackdown also targeted corruption inside the police service. Minister Wijepala said the dismissals included officers convicted of taking bribes, as well as others found guilty of serious dereliction of duty and failure to carry out official responsibilities.
The Minister said the government is following a zero-tolerance approach to misconduct within law enforcement. He stressed that authorities are taking a firm position on integrity inside the force.
Wijepala also assured that officials are investigating public complaints against police personnel quickly and without delay. The move, he said, aims to restore accountability and public trust in the service.
