Maris Motor Rally 2026 will combine motorsport, music and hospitality to support tourism, small businesses and community projects in Negombo.
Maris Motor Rally 2026 will return to Negombo this August with a broader focus on tourism, community development and local economic growth.
The high-energy programme will combine motorsport, international music, hospitality and community action. Organisers hope it will strengthen Negombo’s appeal as a must-visit weekend destination for Sri Lankan and overseas travellers.
Organised by the Old Boys’ Association of Maris Stella College, Negombo, MMR 26 will unite motorsport, live entertainment, hotel and restaurant partnerships, destination experiences and year-round CSR projects under one platform.
The event is expected to generate wider benefits for hotels, restaurants, transport providers, small vendors, youth groups and community-based businesses across Negombo.
MMR 26 has secured support from several corporate and hospitality partners. St. Joseph’s Hospital will serve as title sponsor, while BYD joins as automobile partner. Jetwing Hotels is the hospitality partner, and Ritzbury CBL is the confectionery partner.
A&E Yarn and Tuk Tuk Wine & Dine have also joined as supporting partners. Their involvement will help deliver an integrated motorsport, entertainment and tourism experience while encouraging broader economic activity in the city.

Maris Motor Rally 2026 Weekend Programme
Organisers unveiled the programme at a press conference at Vertical by Jetwing on 11 June. A public warm-up party will follow on 17 July at Tuk Tuk Wine & Dine.
The main MMR 26 TSD Rally will flag off from the Maris Stella College premises at 8.00 a.m. on 1 August. Organisers expect an audience of around 2,000.
Later that day, the MMR 26 Together official music festival will begin at 4.00 p.m. at the Jetwing Blue premises. The festival is expected to attract around 8,000 people.
The weekend programme will conclude with an after-party at Tuk Tuk Wine & Dine on 2 August.
One of the major attractions will be a performance by the Australian-based, internationally acclaimed ABBA tribute show Björn Again. The show was created in Melbourne in 1988 and has since toured internationally.
Organisers expect the performance to add international entertainment appeal to Negombo’s tourism calendar. It could also generate fresh interest among domestic visitors and foreign travellers.
Maris Motor Rally 2026 will introduce a One Pass visitor scheme as part of the wider destination experience. A QR code on each event ticket will give visitors access to exclusive discounts and offers.
These benefits will be available through partner hotels, restaurants and selected tourism experiences across Negombo. The scheme aims to encourage visitors to stay longer, spend more in the local economy and explore the city beyond the main event venues.
“Sri Lanka’s tourism recovery needs strong destination-level experiences that connect visitors with local communities. MMR 26 is not only a rally or a music festival; it is a platform to promote Negombo as a complete weekend economy covering hotels, restaurants, entertainment, transport, small businesses and community initiatives,” said Dhammika Fernando, President of the Maris Stella College OBA.
Tourism Growth Creates Wider Opportunity
The 2026 edition builds on the momentum generated by MMR 25. Organisers positioned last year’s event as a festival of speed, spirit and revival for Negombo.
Media coverage in 2025 also highlighted its contribution to tourism revival, sustainability, youth engagement and local business activity.
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is now entering a critical period of growth. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the country recorded more than one million tourist arrivals from January to May 2026.
Sri Lanka therefore crossed the one-million mark within the first five months of the year.
Against this backdrop, destination-led events such as MMR 26 can help spread tourism income beyond hotel occupancy. They can create direct opportunities for restaurants, informal workers, transport operators, entertainment providers and small businesses.

Community Projects Support Responsible Tourism
MMR 26 will continue its CSR and community development work throughout the year.
Organisers have already installed six PET bottle collection points at prominent locations. They also conducted a major beach cleanup involving more than 1,000 participants on Negombo beach.
In addition, the organisers completed stage one of the Negombo Fort restoration project in partnership with the Negombo Municipal Council.
They have supported cleaning programmes around major tourist attractions, including the Negombo Jetty area. The organisers also donated 200 lunch packets to the Negombo Municipal Council in support of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.
These projects are expected to strengthen Negombo’s position as a responsible tourism destination. They link entertainment and visitor attractions with environmental protection, heritage conservation and civic participation.
“Negombo has the natural advantage of being close to the airport, having a strong hotel base, a rich cultural identity and a vibrant coastal economy. Through MMR 26, our objective is to help convert these strengths into real income opportunities for the local community while creating a positive image for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector,” Fernando added.
By bringing motorsport, music, hospitality partnerships, environmental action and community participation together, Maris Motor Rally 2026 aims to become a larger platform for tourism promotion, local livelihood development and economic activity in Negombo.
