Colombo Fort Magistrate issues an Aravinda de Silva arrest warrant after the ex-cricketer and his wife fail to appear as sureties in the Airbus case.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today issued an Aravinda de Silva arrest warrant against the former cricketer and his wife, Priyanga Anushka Wijenayake.
The order came when the court took up the case relating to the Airbus transactions involving Kapila Chandrasena and his wife this morning.
Kapila Chandrasena, named as a suspect in connection with the incident, is now deceased. His wife, released on bail in connection with the case, is currently abroad.
Sureties Fail to Appear in Court
The court had granted bail to Kapila Chandrasena’s wife with former international cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife, Priyanga Anushka Wijenayake, standing as sureties.
When the case was taken up today, the suspect was also absent from court. As the sureties also failed to appear before the court, the Magistrate issued warrants against them.
Counsel Explains Absence
Counsel appearing for the sureties informed the court that they were unable to appear as Aravinda de Silva’s mother had passed away. Her funeral was scheduled to be held today.
Magistrate Directs Documents
The Magistrate directed that any relevant documents concerning the matter be produced. The court also directed that the circumstances be brought to its attention when the warrants are taken up for recall.
